Mr Smith read the coverage in the Scotland edition of the Sunday Times about the "coming out" of SNP MEP Alyn Smith who has become the SNP's only openly gay elected representative.
Mr Smith doesn't really care about the other Mr Smith's admission, he is more concerned about the fact that Mr Smith MEP seems to spend his time doing a range of jobs and gaining work "experience" which are very tenuously connected, if at all, to his role as a Member of the European Parliament.
But Mr Smith hadn't quite clocked the fact that Mr Smith MEP had come to be labelled the "European Member for Whimsy." We thought more like "MEP for Brigadoon."
