Little Miss Moffat.

So it appears that Labour MP Anne Moffat's East Lothian activists are so unhappy that they reportedly decided not to endorse her reselection as a Labour candidate for the next General Election, leaving the MP to rely on the support of trade union branches in her constituency to make sure she was adopted as the candidate.

Now Mr Smith doesn't really know Ms Moffat all that well, only reading in the press of a regular series of "issues" which seem to have afflicted her since her election in 2001, but one thing is of concern to Mr Smith: should a handful of trade union branches, attended by a handful of trade union members, many of whom are members of political parties other than the Labour Party, really be able to override the views of Labour party members who had their doubts about their existing MP's record?

Is this really the One Member One Vote democracy and the mandatory reselection of candidates created by the likes of Tony Benn and endorsed by former Deputy Labour Leader John Prescott MP? Or is it just a different type of non-enclosed smoke filled room?
