Wendy's Holyrood House?

So, the Scottish Labour Party's big guns are lining up to endorse Wendy Alexander's "coronation" as the new Leader of the Scottish Labour Party with press reports that neither former Health Minister, Andy Kerr MSP, or former Communities Minister, Margaret Curran MSP, will choose to stand against her.

Now Mr Smith has met with Wendy previously and thinks she has undoubted talents and abilities; he is just not sure that being Leader of the Scottish Labour Party, especially at the moment, would be the best utilisation of these skills.

Wendy was once famously described as a "gerbil on speed" because of her tendency to speak very fast, and her intellectual credentials are second to none, but does she really have the common touch which the Labour Party needs to hold on to its own support, never mind trying to win some of that which has been taken by the SNP in recent months? Mr Smith thinks not.

Either way, the UK Labour Party hierarchy should perhaps butt out of affairs in Scotland, leave those who wish to stand to do so in a Leadership Election. Otherwise they could find that they end up with their preferred Leader, but of a party with the support of fewer activists and fewer of the "punters."
