It's Britain's oil.

So, the UK Government is trying to put the kibosh on attempts by the new Scottish Government to gain control over Scotland's oil revenues by highlighting the benefits which Scotland has gained from Her Majesty's Government exploiting the north sea oil fields on behalf of the UK as a whole.

That's an interesting twist on the "It's Scotland's Oil" slogan which dominated Scottish politics during the 1970's, and indeed for much of the eighties, but Mr Smith thinks it is a fundamental mistake for the UK Government to compete on Nationalist territory. But it reinforces just how much the world of Scottish politics has changed since 3rd May 2007.
